Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

The Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe is unquestionably the most famous one of all. Baking chocolate chip cookies is an American past-time and we consider them to be The Great American Cookie.
The origins of this cookie started back in the 1930's when Mrs. Wakefield, the owner of the Toll House Inn, decided to add some pieces of a Nestle semisweet chocolate bar to her famous Butter Drop Do Cookies she expected the chocolate to melt and spread throughout the cookies but the chocolate held its shape and softened to a creamy texture.
The resulting creation became very popular at the Inn. Soon, Mrs. Wakefields' chocolate chip cookie recipe was published in a Boston newspaper, as well as other papers in the New England area. The rest, as you probably know, is cookie history.
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar

- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) Semi-Sweet
Chocolate Morsels
- 1 cup chopped nuts

Preparation:
- If you are going to bake two sheets of cookies at a time, then arrange the racks in your oven to divide it into thirds. For baking with one sheet at a time, put one of the oven racks in the center of the oven.
- PREHEAT oven to 375°F.
- Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl.
- Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large bowl until creamy. Stop to scrape down sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula as you go along.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts.
- Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. If you are baking with two sheets at a time, switch baking pans from top to bottom racks halfway through the cooking time. If you are baking with one sheet at a time then rotate the pan halfway through the cooking time. This will ensure that the cookies cook more evenly.
- Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
